Iona Football Club is a community football club based at St Columba Anglican School and is open to all members of the community.
Formed in 2017, 2022 sees Iona Football Club enter its fifth season and will once again participate in the Football Mid North Coast competitions with teams ranging in age from U6 to U18, and for the first time we will enter a first grade men’s team in the FMNC open competition and the FFA Cup.
Our U12, U13 & U15 teams will also participate in the inaugural Coastal Shield competitions.
Information regarding when the season commences, play during school holidays, final series etc can be found on the FMNC Season Calendar. Please click on link at the bottom of this page.
Iona Football Club prides itself on providing a professional, friendly, encouraging learning environment particularly suited to helping junior players reach their full potential as footballers.
Since our inception, Iona Football has experienced phenomenal growth. From 237 registrations in our first season in 2018 we have had 4 years of sustained growth, 20% 2019, 19% 2020, & 19% 2021. In 2022 we grew by a further 8% to a record 438 registrations and 37 teams. Within the next few years we are projected to grow to more than 500 players.
Since we began our female participation rates have hovered around 25% and last year (2021) reached a record 29% or 116 players. In the 2022 season every age group from U6 to U12 has female only teams – most age groups have 2 female only teams.
We are very proud of the accomplishments of our competitive teams. In the 2021 season, Iona U13s completed the perfect season winning all 14 games played, our U14s completed their second successive undefeated season winning 12 and drawing 2, and our U15s playing in an U16 competition finished runners up.
Our U11 all girls team competed in its first competitive season and achieved some fantastic results against older opposition.
Whilst growth brings challenges, we remain committed to continuing the high standards of on-field performance and off-field behavior that have been established during our short history.
In 2022 Iona FC will enter teams in the U15 and U18 FMNC Friday night competitions and will play their home matches at Findlay Park No 2. We are indebted to Port Saints for generously allowing us to use their home ground.
U6 to U11 miniroos will continue to play their home matches at St Columba Anglican School – Iona Ave Port Macquarie. Players born in 2017 who turn 5 years of age in 2022 are eligible to register to play in the U6 competition.
U12, U13 & U14 teams play on the “back oval” (Field 7) of St Columba Anglican school. Access to this field is via the main entrance off Major Innes road.
In the 2022 season Iona FC will enter teams in the following;
